My life in July
It’s July 31 and I can’t for the life of me remember what’s happened this month. That feels like it’s a bad thing. Is it?
Maybe it’s not. Maybe I’ve just been so busy having all the fun that it’s blurry. Blurry with fun. Fun blurry. Or maybe I’m just losing my memory.
Oh how I hope it’s just blurry fun.
What do you say we piece this last month together? You, me and my camera roll.

During the first couple days of July, the world revolved around Pogi. But this time it wasn’t multiple trips to the emergency vet. This time, we consecutively went to the dog park, Ocean Beach dog beach and Del Mar dog beach. Oh– and we had a park picnic. It was fun for Pogi, but probably even more importantly, fun for the whole family.

We set out at 5:00am to complete “San Diego’s hardest hike”, El Cajon Mountain. I documented the whole hike (watch here if you’re eager) and it felt like the good old days– hiking, hiking, hiking without a care in the world. Though one major change was having a dog beside us.
For me this was a positive change. An invited one. This is where the stress of being a dog-owner, of a challenging dog, in my early twenties pays off. This day I saw my life through rose-tinted glasses. Hiking up a mountain with my beautiful boyfriend and fire-cracker dog. My heart, while pounding in my chest working overtime to supply my body with enough oxygen, was at peace. Watching Pogi trot along, free to explore the trail, released an insane amount of oxytocin into my screaming muscles. I can’t help but smile at the memory. Plus the views weren’t bad either.

Growing up means returning somewhere familiar on vacation. This is something I wrote about last July, after my trip up to Portland, OR. Well, Jakob and I made our way back up there again this July. However, this time, it was for a super quick weekend to celebrate the wedding of our college friends.
Being reunited with friends from college was such a breath of fresh air. Especially since I have a tendency to turn memories sour and get anxious upon the opportunities to make new ones. And while I was a bit anxious beforehand, as soon as I started yapping away with familiar faces, I was home. Life skipped a beat seeing everyone a bit older, wiser, engaged and married even, but our familiarity didn’t. And I’m grateful for that.

During this week I started filming my “Super Fit and Buff Challenge" where I was meant to spend the next 25 days completing at home pilates videos. The pilates videos ceased after day one. The challenge is technically still ongoing, I just stopped posting about it. I’m not sure if anyone cared or noticed. I’m feeling relatively indifferent to it.
Sunday, July 19
Jakob and I joined a handful of friends to watch the World Cup Final at a bar in North Park. It was insane fighting for elbow room to watch a game I spent more of my life playing than not, amongst a crowd of people who only knew “Messi is playing”. But I’m happy that soccer is getting more recognition, even if it was just for the month. I’m also happy Argentina lost.
I’m celebrating with throwback soccer photos. I miss my teammates.

I started designing… merch? I guess that’s what I can call it for now.
I decided a month or two ago that I wanted to design clothes– specifically workout clothes. The passion dimmed amongst work and life the following weeks, but I finally took a step forward. I’m feeling stressed about it all. Would you, dear reader, support this next business venture? I’m not entirely convinced. But maybe that’s just a me thing. A lack of self confidence thing.
Production is going to be hush-hush until further notice.

Tadej Pogačar won his fifth Tour De France, making him only the fifth man to hold that record. We of course celebrated Pogi’s namesake by lovingly forcing her to take paparazzi photos in cycling gear. You can enjoy the pictures knowing she was compensated fairly.

That’s today. I’m currently working from home and pounding my fingers into my keyboard. Pedal to the metal vibes, but the blogging version.
I’m also finding it an odd coincidence that the majority of these highlights occurred on Tuesdays and Sundays. I’m not quite sure what that insinuates. I also don’t care enough to pry at the thought further.
If you made it this far, thank you and I’m sorry. I’ve been so touch and go with writing lately (aka not writing at all, at least not creatively) so just know, it can only get better from here. And enjoy the bonus photos below.
Xoxo, LANEY
